Expressing equality:

so + adjective (basic form) + wie

When we want to express that two people or things are the same in a particular respect, we use the phrase (genau)so + the base of the adjective + wie:
Nina ist genauso groß wie Nico.

We can use nicht to express inequality:
Lisa ist nicht so groß wie Nico.

Expressing inequality or difference:

Adjective (comparative) + als

When two people or things are different in a particular respect, we use the comparative + als:
Nico ist größer als Lisa.
Nico ist kleiner als Sebastian.
